WEEKLY NEWS & NOTES

Hats and blankets for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital: The ladies of Somers completed a tremendous service project this year! They crafted 226 blankets and 675 hats (and counting) for donation. While the initial goal was the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the sheer volume of finished items allowed for a broader reach. Blankets were also shared with children's homes in Morilton and Paragould, as well as with River City Ministries. Thank you, ladies, for dedicating your time and talent to serve "the least of these." May the Father receive all the glory for this wonderful effort.

Somers Sings Date Change! To accommodate those traveling for the holidays, we will have our mid-week assembly on Tuesday night, November 25th, instead of Wednesday. This is the last week of the quarter, so we will all meet together in the auditorium for the end of the quarter Somers Sings night.

Please save the date for our annual Crazy Card Party on Saturday, December 13th at 6:00pm. This is for adults only. Get ready for a fun evening of games, food, and fellowship. More details to come!

Glenview Food Boxes: This year's Glenview Elementary food boxes are designed to address ongoing family food insecurity. Each box costs about $50 at Walmart. A list of needed items was shared last week via email and FB. Our goal is 40 boxes. Bring items to the stage before December 14th. You can also donate money for gift cards, which families can use for perishable items (milk, meat, bread). Contribute via cash, a check to Somers, or the app (select 'Glenview').

Mark your calendars! The annual SomersKids’ Lunch with Santa and Glenview Service Project is scheduled for Sunday, December 14th. Join us in the AC immediately following services for:

  • Lunch and photos with Santa.

  • Decorating boxes for the Glenview Elementary food distribution project.

RSVP: Please RSVP to Caroline Prestridge by December 7th so we can order the right amount of food.

Volunteer: If you are able to help with decorating the AC, serving food, or providing cookies or stickers, please contact Caroline Prestridge.

KEEP IN PRAYER

Bill White has a highly contagious bacterial infection and is being treated at home.

David Clements’ brother, Larry, is scheduled for surgery in January for his renal cell carcinoma.

Kayla Thomas was scheduled for surgery on today, Wednesday, November 19th at Baptist Springhill and expected to be in the hospital several days. Kayla and her husband, Decarlo, request prayers for a successful procedure and speedy recovery. (no new updates at this time)

Mary Daniel has received a diagnosis of inoperable Hepatocellular Carcinoma (liver cancer). The next step in her treatment is an embolization to mitigate the risk of hemorrhage from large blood vessels within the mass. She is also being evaluated for possible immunotherapy in mid-November and will consult with palliative medicine to explore additional options. Mary would appreciate telephone calls and masked in-person visits; however, please confirm her availability in advance due to her compromised immunity. Your continued prayers are greatly appreciated.

Mary Hughes has completed 3 of 4 treatments for kidney disease with positive results so far.

Tim Jorgensen is waiting to get the results from his MRI.

Zach Douglas had nitrogen explode in his eyes at work on Wednesday, which lodged debris in both of his corneas. He was evaluated at UAMS. Doctors found that the damage was mostly on the surface of his cornea and should repair itself completely in about a week or two. Zach will have a follow up appointment in 6 weeks and can return to work on Monday.

Please pray for those with continued health problems including: Lovell Davis, Gail Jenkins, Joel Gray, Gil & Sue Myatt, Ima Jean Robinson, & Sue Simmons.
